Responsible Gaming

For most people games are for entertainment. They play responsible while remaining within their financial framework, so that no further problems arise for them or others. However, for a small part of the population suffering from gaming addiction, games are not an entertainment but a serious problem.

Pathological gaming or compulsive gaming, also known colloquially as gaming addiction, is characterized by the inability of an individual to resist the impulse to gamble, even if it results in grave consequences in their personal, family or professional environment.

In 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) has officially recognized online gaming addiction as a disease and added it to its catalog. In the ICD-11, the following criteria are mentioned: slipping control, for example, in the frequency and duration of the game, growing priority of playing in front of other activities and moving on even with negative consequences.

It is important to SPITCH to support safe and responsible gaming behavior. For a calm and relaxed gaming experience, we encourage you to consider the following principles:

  • SPITCH should be fun and only for your entertainment
  • Playing should not be a source of income for you
  • Do not pay with any money you need to make a living and fulfill your financial obligations
  • Only play when you are focused and relaxed
  • Do not borrow money or take a credit to play SPITCH
  • Set a personal monthly limit, once your limit is reached, you should not increase your limit at a later date
  • Plan how much time you want to spend at SPITCH
  • Do not neglect your social environment and take reactions from others seriously
  • Do not play secretly and do not neglect your usual leisure activities
  • Do not use SPITCH to distract you from disputes, disappointments, frustration or problems
  • Do not play if you are under the influence of alcohol or medication or in a depressive mood

If you find it difficult to follow these principles, we recommend that you contact our support.

After a successful self-exclusion, you will NOT be able to log in to SPITCH or participate in games.

Please note that you can only cancel, reduce or increase your changes after 24 hours. You are in control of the period of your exclusion. Once your set period has expired, you can log in as usual. However, you cannot revoke this setting until 7 days after activation via e-mail to our support. Further information and contact points for responsible gaming can be found on our site. Are you at risk?

SPITCH expressly points out that the diagnosis of a clinical disorder can only be made by trained specialist staff. If you’re concerned about your gaming behavior, be sure to ask yourself the following questions about your gaming activity over the past 12 months and be honest with yourself. If you can answer yes to four or more of the following questions, we recommend that you exclude yourself and to contact a counseling center:

  • Are you restless and irritable when you stop playing or want to reduce it?
  • Have you already made several attempts to control, reduce, or stop playing?
  • Are you often involved in gaming?
  • Do you often play when you are restless?
  • Are you trying to balance the losses of a previous game session on another day?
  • Do you lie to yourself when it comes to the extent of your playing?
  • Did you risk or give up an important relationship, job or education and career for playing?
